Eva's Digital Media Experience

Hi! My name is Eva Schoen, and I'm currently a freshman at the University of Tampa majoring in Film and Media Arts. My first Digital Media class was on Tuesday, August 30, and it was a pretty unique experience. We mostly just had time to introduce ourselves to the rest of our class, because the fire alarm went off and class got cut short. But I think I have a lot in common with the rest of my classmates, and everyone seems very determined to get the most out of this class going forward. I'm expecting to get a better understanding of technology going forward. I haven't had too many technological resources available to me at home, so I'm looking forward to becoming fluent in new programs. 

I'm studying here about one thousand miles away from my home in Cleveland, Ohio, and I could not be happier. There's nothing I like more than warm weather and palm trees, so I think I'll do pretty well for myself here. I like to play tennis and swim, both of which I've done a good amount of since moving in. I spend a lot of my free time reading and writing, and a lot of the ideas I get from this material gets converted into films that I make myself! I also love animals, and I'm really missing my pets back home. Right now we have four birds, a bunny, a dog, and a few fish. I got my first bird when I was seven, so I barely remember what living without them was like. But regardless, I'm so excited to be here in Tampa and get to start my new life!

Somewhere Project

I wanted to put myself into a superhero show, because I love this genre and think it's fun to imagine myself with superpowers. I put myself into a scene from The Defenders, because there was a gap in this elevator scene that I thought I would fit nicely into. This was one of my favorite projects to work on, because I got to put myself into a different world and I think it turned out really well. The hardest part for me was blending the edges of my picture into the background image, because the tools weren't working exactly how I wanted them to. Overall, I had a good time working on the Somewhere project and would definitely try something like this again.

The Internet!

      The internet is potentially the most useful piece of technology available today. However, it was not always around for people to be able to learn the answer to any question in a heartbeat. On the first day of 1983, the internet as we know it today was created by Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn. It was originally designed as a secret way of communication between scientists during the Cold War, and as time went on, engineers realized how great of a tool it could be if available to everyone in the public. The internet now is used for quick and easy research, communication across the world, and entertainment.       The World Wide Web is the collection of all webpages accessible by the public. Known more commonly as the Web, it was created in 1989 by British scientist Tim Berners-Lee. It was originally used as a system for managing and organizing documents. Portfolio

For my final portfolio, I wanted to do something nature related. I've tried incorporating nature into almost all of my projects, and I wanted this one to do the same. I chose a sky theme, because I could add flying birds, which are my favorite animals. I put the projects in timeline order from this year, because I think going in order shows my progress the best. My first project wasn't the best, but once I got to the end, you can see how much I improved. I had a fun time doing the portfolio because I got to really see all my work together, and think about how much I've done in only one semester.
